[Nine Dragons Chant] : The nine sons of dragon
This is my master project of MA concept art. It's a character concept design according to a Chinese legend 'the nine sons of dragon'. The ‘Nine sons of dragon’ is a popular legend in China and the image of the character in this story can be seen on plenty of items in China, such as Chinese style furniture, gate and the sculptures. The legends in China are always based on natural phenomena that ancient people could not explain, including the ‘Nine sons of dragon’. There are many different versions and I chose the most popular one. In the traditional Chinese culture, ‘nine’ means ‘the most’, ‘the best’, it’s not only used as just a number, so that there are not only nine sons born of the dragon. There are different versions of animals having children with the dragon that have been passed down from ancient people, but generally only nine of them are mentioned in each version.

The biggest brother of them called Qiu Niu who is born of dragon and a cow. Legend has it that Qiu Niu is the son of many dragons. Among them, it is the most docile in temperament. It is not bloodthirsty or ruthless, and it specializes in melody.
The second one called Ya Zi who is born of dragon and a jackal wolf, a divine beast in ancient Chinese mythology, the jackal body and the dragon head, born of the dragon and the jackal.
The third one called Chao Feng who is born of dragon and a bird. The appearance of Chao Feng is graceful and elegant, expensive at all, symbolizing good luck and prosperity.
Pu Lao is the kid of the dragon and a toad and he is the third of nine brothers. Pu Lao inherited the mother toad loud voice, like the characteristics of singing, usually often at the seaside to shout.
The fifth son of the dragon, named ‘Suan Ni’, was born between the dragon and the lion mother and has the body of half a dragon and half a lion. Suan Ni is an anomaly among the nine dragons.
The sixth son of the dragon, called ‘Ba Xia’, also called ‘Bi Xi’, was born with his mother. Ba Xia is also known as the ‘dragon turtle’, ‘Xuan turtle’, his strength is infinite, like to carry heavy objects.
The dragon's seventh son, named 'Bi An', was born with his tiger mother. Bi An he inherited the fierce and resolute character of his mother tiger. He was upright and upright, willing to bend and willing to do justice.
‘Fu Xi’ is the eighth son of the nine dons of the dragon in ancient Chinese mythology. He is the child of the Dragon and the Green Dragon, and has the purest blood of the nine sons of the Dragon.
‘Chi Wen’, the ninth son of the dragon with nine sons in Chinese mythology and legend, is the child of the dragon and the fish.
